Introducing Sharan & Ahamed: Senior Software Engineers
01 Oct 2026

Hi guys - we'll start with you, Ahamed!
Where did you work prior to Devoli and what was your main role there?
Before joining Devoli, I was a Senior Software Engineer at Datacom, focusing mainly on the front end of one of their payroll applications. Alongside building features, I got involved in architectural planning and working end-to-end with product managers, taking ideas from planning all the way through to demo. One of my favourite parts of the job was chatting with teammates across different products, learning what everyone was working on and getting to know the domain.
What will you be doing at Devoli? Describe your role and how you fit into the wider business?
At Devoli, I look after the front end, building new features, keeping the codebase healthy, and helping plan architecture as we grow. I work closely with our UI/UX engineer and the wider engineering team, who've been incredibly welcoming and helpful since I started. My goal is to make our platform as smooth and reliable as possible, so our customers have a great experience and their day-to-day work gets a little easier.
What are you looking forward to most about the coming year, personally and work-wise?
Work-wise, I'm keen to keep growing my front-end skills and dive deeper into agentic development, automating the repetitive stuff so there's more time for the interesting problems. I'd also love to do more architecture and domain-driven design, and get my hands dirty with some back-end and API work. Personally, I'm fairly new to New Zealand, so with summer on the way I'm looking forward to spending quality time with my family and exploring more of Auckland and beyond.
AI is now a critical part of all technology roles. How do you plan to harness AI tech in your role?
AI is part of my day, every day! At work I treat it like a co-engineer: I brainstorm features, talk through bugs, get a second opinion on reviews, and generate code when it makes sense. What I love most is how much I learn from it. There's often more than one way to solve a problem, and AI regularly shows me approaches I hadn't thought of. Going forward, I want to lean into automation wherever I can.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
Family time is my favourite. I love driving, so long road trips with my family, discovering new places and trying new food, are right up my alley. Just as happy with a cosy movie night and snacks, or a wander around the shops. I'd also like to get back into reading, so my goal for next year is to finish at least one book. I've already got a few lined up!
