Introducing Aaron Sun: Senior Software Developer

12 Jun 2025

Hi Aaron, great to have your expertise and passion on the team!

Where did you work prior to Devoli and what was your main role there?

Before joining Devoli, I worked at Spark NZ as a Full Stack Developer. I was focused on building and maintaining customer-facing web applications, including the purchase and account management journeys for Skinny Unlimited Broadband. I worked closely with product and design teams to deliver new features and improve the user experience.

Describe your role at Devoli?

Senior full stack developer, I help build and improve the systems our customers and teams use — both the front end (what people see) and back end (how it works behind the scenes).

I work with other developers, designers, and product managers to deliver features, fix issues, and make sure everything runs smoothly.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

I enjoy going to the gym, fishing when the weather’s good, and exploring new tech — whether it’s trying out new tools, frameworks, or just learning something interesting in the software space.

What are you looking forward to most about the coming year?

I’m looking forward to taking on more technical challenges, learning from the team, and contributing to meaningful projects. I’m also excited to keep up with new tech trends and see how we can bring fresh ideas into what we build.

How is AI playing into your area of work?

AI has become a valuable assistant in my work — helping with things like code generation, testing, debugging, and even system design. It won’t replace developers, but it is speeding up development and freeing us up to focus more on problem-solving, architecture, and building better user experiences.

What are you enjoying most about Devoli after a few weeks on the team?

What I’m enjoying most so far is the friendly and supportive team culture. Everyone’s been really welcoming and open to sharing knowledge. I also like the focus on building quality software and solving real problems — it makes the work feel meaningful and rewarding.
